From The Gothamist, a full moon tonight:

The "supermoon" occurs when the full moon's elliptical orbit is closest to the earth (this is also called the "lunar perigee"). March’s full moon is known as the Worm Moon, because according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac, it's a marker that spring is here: "At this time of the year, the ground begins to soften enough for earthworm casts to reappear, inviting robins and other birds to feed—a true sign of spring. Roots start to push their way up through the soil, and the Earth experiences a re-birth as it awakens from its winter slumber." (An alternative name for this moon is the Full Sap Moon, because this is also the time of year "when the sap of sugar maples starts to flow.")

Saw The Mummies exhibit at AMNH before it closed. Learned: Canopic jars were used by the ancient Egyptians during the mummification process to store and preserve the viscera of their owner for the afterlife. They were commonly either carved from limestone or were made of pottery; Cartonnage is a type of material used in Ancient Egyptian funerary masks from the First Intermediate Period to the Roman era. It was made of layers of linen or papyrus covered with plaster. Some of the Fayum mummy portraits are also painted on panels made of cartonnage..

75% sale since the exhibit is ending. $6.

Stopped in and saw Our Senses. Lots of interesting stuff about how our senses are limited.

Staycation and a quick road-trip before Labor Day. Been working hard , time to relax and hope I don't get bothered too much.

Supermoon: the term ‘supermoon’ is not astronomical. Scientists call this event a ‘perigee moon’: it takes place when the full Moon reaches the closest point to Earth on its oval orbit. This point is called perigee and it is about 50,000 km closer to our planet than the opposite side of the Moon’s elliptical path – apogee. Native Americans used to give every full moon a special name. For example, the full moon in August was often referred to as the Sturgeon Moon.

Had Potato Gnocchi with Mushroom sauce last night, delicious.

LIC Flea is a smaller version of Smorgasburg. The food is really good. Got some sandwiches to go from the Butcher Block, excellent stuff.

The moon enters its full phase at 7:32 a.m. ET Sunday, only about a half-hour after it passes the point in its orbit nearest to Earth, which is known as perigee. As a result, this full moon will look about 14 percent wider and 30 percent brighter than it does at the farthest point in its orbit.

Supermoon tonight: Perigee is the closest the moon gets to Earth and the stage the moon appears larger while apogee is the farthest point from Earth.

A beer to finish four straight days of Basketball. Nice flavor, a good stout.

The Mind's Eye is an interesting read. The Brain, perception, and Neurological issues all dispensed in a clear narrative. Lots of medical terms like: Agnosia, Posterior Cortical Atrophy (PCA), Anomia, and Musical Alexia. The author also writes about his own ocular melanoma and the unusual side-effects that he endured.

Strawberry Shortcake, excellent.

Supermoon, got to get a better camera for night shots.

The new Box-Set ($99) JAZZ: The Smithsonian Anthology looks exceptional.
