Greenmarket flowers

On-Line at TKTS, South Street Seaport for today's The Iceman Cometh Matinée. I'll see if Denzel is a better Hickey than Lee Marvin.

“Let us join in prayer that Hickey, the Great Salesman will arrive bringing the blessed bourgeois longreen!” - Willie

Pipe Dreams said 46 times.

“Action draggeth, dialogue reeketh, play stinketh” NY Post 1946.

Robert Ryan is outstanding in the ATF production.

LARRY--(with a sardonic grin) What is it? It's the No Chance Saloon. It's Bedrock Bar, The End of the Line Café, The Bottom of the Sea Rathskeller! Don't you notice the beautiful calm in the atmosphere? That's because it's the last harbor. No one here has to worry about where they're going next, because there is no farther they can go. It's a great comfort to them. Although even here they keep up the appearances of life with a few harmless pipe dreams about their yesterdays and tomorrows, as you'll see for yourself if you're here long.

I still had it in my library. $1.95!

Solo will be seen tomorrow.

South Street Seaport Tkts booth. It opens at 11 am.

Lots of protesters at Union Square. They marched through the Greenmarket.

I had this issue and Amazing Fantasy # 15 (intro of Spider-man.) As a kid, you buy comics to read, not to collect. Somehow I still have X-Men #1. Of course, it is not in mint condition, it got read.

Saw Dr. Strange last night in 3-D. Not bad, great special effects. Stay to the end, two Easter eggs to see.

Long line, but got my Matinee tickets from Tkts.

Shades of night are falling and I'm lonely
Standing on the corner feeling blue
Sweethearts out for fun
Pass me by one by one
Guess I'll wind up like I always do
With only....

Me and my shadow
Strolling down the avenue
Oh, me and my shadow
Not a soul to tell our troubles to
And when it's twelve o'clock we climb the stairs
We never knock 'cause nobody's there
Just me and my shadow
All alone and feeling blue

The East River still stinks to high heaven.

Brooklyn Bridge.

Another shot of Brooklyn Bridge.

The Beekman Beer Garden Beach Club looked nice but had no bartender or beer. Went to Sequoia which had 16 oz. brews for $4.

Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more..Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood, and go to the free stuff on 24th street. Ciao Bella Blood Orange Sorbet was superb.

Still a nice, quiet walk.

Saw a bunch of people today running in Kangoo Jumps.

It's Union Square, a protest fits in with the history.

Sunflowers in the sun.

Philip K. Dick's works inspired so many movies, this is another one : The Adjustment Bureau. Great line from the article: "Of all American writers, none have got the genre-hack-to-hidden-genius treatment quite so fully as Philip K. Dick..."

A free rental from Redbox. Matt Damon is a good actor who makes even bad movies better.

Staycation Broadway visit: Sister Act. Didn't like the movie, don't think I'll like this, but I'm going to cheer up a friend who is going through Chemo and wants to see it. Ropa Vieja at Victor's Cafe beforehand will make things better. TKTS will make the price more palatable.

Greenmarket Trinity obtained: Corn, Peaches and Tomatoes. I'm a little disappointed with the Corn this year. Small ears and not as good as last year.

Pretty crowded at 2:00 p.m.

Lots of classic cars in town today.

Start of a two-week "Staycation", not going anywhere, just hanging-out and short trips. Some relations unexpectedly popped in and they wanted White Castle and Buds. Voila! A "Crave Case" and a case of Bud kept everyone happy.

Blues BBQ Pier 54 at W.14th St.
Free! August 22, 2-9pm

An impressive list of BBQ and the beer is Blue Moon and Sam Adams.
Brother Jimmy's BBQ
Char No.4
Dinosaur Bar B Que
Fatty 'Cue

Will see West Side Story soon. This must be the end of the run. Good half-price tickets are widely available and Tkts has them on the list.

The supermarkets have Pepsi and Mountain Dew "Throwbacks", that is sodas made with real sugar, not corn syrup. I think it tastes better with sugar. The "Throwbacks" go fast. I can remember when Mountain Dew first came out. Highly caffeinated.

Restaurant Week lunch at Victor's.
A real treat, old-school type of place, very
professional service and great food. Had the
Ropa Vieja and a nice Argentinian wine.

Went to see South Pacific at Lincoln Center.
Got 20% off tickets at TKTS.

Wonderful play. Had upper loge seats that
gave a real panoramic view of the stage and the
orchestra beneath it.
