The Mummy, 1932 version, was on TCM this morning. Swan Lake in the opening credits, just like Dracula.

, The Uncanny !

Gravelle in Charlie Chan at the Opera.
Carnival, was composed for the film by Oscar Levant. Karloff in the opera as Mephisto.

Bela as the Sayer of the Law in Island of Lost Souls.

July 4th has the usual Twilight Zone Marathon on SYFY.

$20 win. I only play once a week, doing well so far.

On TCM on-demand, Michael Redgrave and his dummy Hugo make it worth watching. "Suitable only for Adults!"

Inspiration for Twilight Zone's Willie and Caesar. Both dummies in the Twilight Zone are the same according to Wikipedia.

Turns out that another Twilight Zone was inspired by Dead of Night: Twenty Two.

Great graph to remind us of the relative depths of Lakes and Oceans.

Twilight Zone Marathon this Wednesday on Syfy.

Never had one before but it is a nice summer drink. I added a lime and some Sierra Mist and that made it even better.

I always go for colloidal balance.

Greenmarket was active and crowded.

Peaches have arrived at Terhune Orchards.

Sycamore Farms has corn, a little small, 5 for $3 but the price will go down and they will get bigger.

Because of a family medical issue, I think whatever trips are taken this year will be short ones. Staycation !

My local store now has a new item: The Bialy-Bagel. Not bad, I still prefer the regular Bialy but this is an interesting combo.

A little extra money became available, time to go out! It's a chain but a good one. Also, walking distance from my house so I can have a few drinks. Next week starts NYC Restaurant Week.

I guess I will be visiting most of the Beer Gardens this Summer. Today, was BeerParc on Sixth Avenue and 29th Street.

Nice pleasant setting.

Good beer selection. Magic Hat #9 on tap was quite tasty.

Food was good. $3 Shrimp Cocktail hit the spot.

Big Screen TV to watch Derek Jeter get his 2,999th hit. He later homered for 3,000. For the day he was 5 for 5 , including the game-winning RBI single in the eighth inning, as the Yankees beat the Rays 5-4.

Quiet and shady.

The Queens Library had the book. Amazon and Barnes and Noble Web Sites were selling it for over $100. Amazing.

While looking for the above book, I came across this one.

Heard about this one a while ago and came across it in the Library.

Subway Series finale may be rained out. SyFy has the Twilight Zone Marathon. One of my favorites is Richard Matheson's Nick of Time.

The Mystic Seer in color. Should I watch the episode on Tuesday July 4th at 2:30 P.M. ? The Mystic Seer's reply: "The answer to that is obvious."

Love the sign in the background.

December 31, 2010 - Happy New Year !

Happy New Year !

This was posted on The Gothamist. Pretty cool.

Twilight Zone Marathon has begun. No Fourth season, hour long episodes, in the play list. Other marathons to be sampled: Honeymooners on Channel 11 and Marx Brothers on Turner Classic Movies. No going out tonight, my old neighborhood used to call it "Amateur Night." Home with lots of food, Grandkids, maybe primary kids, and TV Marathons.

My favorite Scrooge, Reginald Owen. From IMDB: "Was not originally scheduled to play Ebenezer Scrooge in the MGM classic 1938 version of "A Christmas Carol." Reginald was a last-minute replacement for the ailing Lionel Barrymore."

S'Muttonator from the Smuttynose Brewing Company from Vermont.

From their Web Site: As the name implies, a doppelbock (double bock) is a very malty German lager beer. Typically quite sweet with some roasted malt undertones, doppelbocks range in color from deep amber to nearly black and are normally associated with the winter season. Traditionally, German brewers have used the suffix “-ator” in naming their doppelbock beers; we have, too.

This is closer to a Barleywine, thick, high alcohol, smooth and tasty. A great Winter Brew.

Victory Village Ale, American Brown Ale | 5.10% ABV. Coffee flavor abounds.

Franco's Deli in Corona has a nice write-up in Edible Queens. I was in the area picking up Stuffed Shells from Mama's (Leo's Latticini) and Tamales from Nixtamal. All three places within a block from each other. The steak sandwich was terrific.

The Stuffed Shells from Mama's can't be beat.

Awaiting the TZ Marathon on SyFy this upcoming New Year's Eve.

Westinghouse Desilu Playhouse ,The Time Element, November 10,1958. Though not the pilot episode of Rod Serling's series, "The Twilight Zone," it was Rod Serling's production that led to "The Twilight Zone" TV series. This rarely played telecast is available in its entirety on YouTube.

Memorial Day Weekend treat.

“He’s Alive,” 1963

R.I.P. Dennis Hopper. The above shot is from an hour-long Twilight Zone. Paul Mazursky has a supporting role.

"...Remember it when you hear a name called, a minority attacked, any blind, unreasoning assault on a people or any human being. He's alive because through these things we keep him alive."

Getting ready for Pacino as Shylock in Shakespeare in the Park.

Happy July 4th !

Beautiful day at the Greenmarket.

P.E. and D.D. Seafood, Lobster and Squid,
Tomatoes, Red Scallions, Garlic and a Lime-Wine
Sauce for lunch with Corn on the Cob.

Union Square has some wonderful sites: Karl Adolph Donndor, James Fountain, also known as the Union Square Drinking Fountain.

No corn at Sycamore Farms. They said next
Wednesday.

However, Migliorelli Farms of Tivoli, NY to the
rescue. Small ears and $1 each, ouch! The Corn was
good, nice snap, quite tasty.

Betty Fussell in "The Story of Corn" recommends as little
time in boiling H20 as possible. John Doerper's Eating Well
(1984), "Make sure to have as little distance as possible
between the corn patch and the kettle."

Gourds in the sun.

Still plenty of flowers.

These were city-planted flowers in the
front of the park.

The Twilight Zone Marathon is on SyFy (both the classic Rod
Serling episodes and some from the mid-'80s revival of the
show -Friday only-) nonstop until 6 a.m. Sunday.

On Friday, I caught a few of the new ones. Above is William
Atherton and Richard Mulligan in a remake of Classic
Twilight Zone's "Night of the Meek." I prefer the Art Carney
version but this one wasn't bad.

Atherton was Walter Peck in Ghostbusters.
My favorite scene:
[Persuading the mayor to let them stop a supernatural upheaval]
Dr. Peter Venkman: If I'm wrong, nothing happens! We go to jail - peacefully, quietly. We'll enjoy it! But if I'm *right*, and we *can* stop this thing... Lenny, you will have saved the lives of millions of registered voters.
