Cool clear day, crowded at 9:30 a.m.

Grapes in the sun.

Gourds in the sun.

Reminded by the NYT Crossword this week that it is Brussells Sprouts, a Cultivar group of wild cabbage.

Broccoli looked so good I got some.

The Whole Foods Bowery Beer Room did not have Brooklyn Cuvée Noire, so I settled for a Four-Pack of Black Chocolate Stout. This will accompany Sausage and Peppers and Cheese-Steaks. The Beer Room now has a Facebook page which lists the latest drafts and specials.

A little Dr. John action.

I was looking for some old Halloween photos the other day and I came across some CDs and floppy disks of old pictures. They were all Seattle Film Works with a .sfw extension. The CDs had embedded programs but only opened low definition photos. A quick look on the Internet found IrfanView a really cool program that could handle just about any image file out there. Their thumbnail viewer is also a great tool. The Price ? Free ! They use a Panda as a logo on the thumbnail viewer. Above is shot from the Bronx Zoo in 1995.

A fun site to play with: Tonematrix.

Black Chocolate Stout was fabulous !

May 29, 2010 - Memorial Day Weekend

Remember those who served.

Market wasn't too crowded at 9:00 a.m. Didn't take any crowd shots. Here's some Swiss Chard.

Sugar Snap Peas:
* 4 oz Sugar snap peas
* 2 Garlic cloves; crushed,
* 1 tb Lime juice
* 1/2 ts Brown sugar
* Or honey
* Water
* Zap for 1 or 2 minutes per taste. I go for one minute.

I was hoping Raspberries would be available, maybe next week. Flowers all over.

Went to Whole Foods Bowery and they had Cask Ale. Maybe next time.

I opted for lighter, Summery beers instead : Sierra Nevada Summerfest.

And, Tröegs Sunshine Pils.

Indoor Grilling for the weekend. Burgers, Dogs, Chicken, Hot Sausage and Peppers, Shrimp on Skewers - to be served Fajita Style, Chili, Salad, and Sugar Snap Peas. Desert will be a Memorial Day Red/White/Blue Shortcake with Strawberries ,Fresh Cream and Blueberries.

The Diary of a Crossword Fiend in comments about the LA Times puzzle references a New Yorker article about Edgar Allan Poe. It is available On-Line. Interesting reading. Learned a new phrase : jiggery pokery.

Great NY Times article on the Rims I learned on. No wonder my game was driving , not shooting

Cadillac Margarita night:
1 1/2 oz 1800® Tequila
1 oz Grand Marnier® orange liqueur
1/4 oz fresh lime juice
splash of orange juice, Sierra Mist

Picked this up while renewing my membership at
Barnes and Noble. Continuing my interest in Old New York.

Rosa Mexicano Restaurant Week lunch was superb.
Dessert: Homemade Mexican chocolate cupcake filled with hazelnut mousse and topped with crème fraiche whipped cream. Served with an espresso-piloncillo-chocolate sauce.
A gussied-up Drake's Yankee Doodle.

Bought The Outer Limits DVDs for Seasons one and two of the original series, three DVD sets in all. Lots of Twilight Zone players. James Cameron had to settle with Harlen Ellison for Demon with a Glass Hand and Soldier - Outer Limits scripts that inspired The Terminator.

The Bowery Whole Foods Beer Room is a frequent
stop. They always have fresh, local Beer.

Today's pick: Sixpoint Diesel Stout.

And, Magic Hat 100(IBU) IPA. IBU stands for International Bittering Unit - the scale used to measure hop bitterness in beer. An IBU is one part per million of isohumulone, an acid derived from hops. If you like the very bitter “bite” of the “Extreme Beers,” a higher IBU would be an indication of that snap.

July 18, 2009 - Field Trip

Ate at Acme Bar and Grill, 9 Great Jones Street, New York, NY.
Real nice Southern Brunch.

Fun place with a wall of Hot Sauce. Above are two that were
near my table: Bite Me and Louisiana Swamp Scum Hot Sauce.

Went to Crate and Barrel for over-sized Vineyard
Wine glasses. Drinking some wine right now.

Since it was nearby, checked out Bowery Whole Foods
Beer Room. Friendly staff , and an impressive selection of beers.

Took home a 32 oz. growler.

Picked up a growler last night of
Blue Point Rastafa Rye, 7% ABV. Excellent taste.
