My gifts to myself, ordered on Thanksgiving, arrived by Monday. I've made my Christmas gift list and already bought three gifts.
Almost finished, now I know what the meaning of "Free man in Paris" is about. Robbie Robertson and his wife were there with Mitchell and producer David Geffen.
Thanksgiving breakfast. Burger King 89¢ pancakes, coupon hash browns, French toast sticks and topped with a McDonald's Egg McMuffin.
Local Starbucks in the spirit.
Salvador Dali street art on 35th street.
Finally did a Black Friday sale. Ordered a Cast Iron pan and two ties. Having it shipped (free over $50) to my job to beat the crowds.
BBC-A has a Star Trek marathon. The second episode ("Where No Man Has Gone Before") has Mark Piper (Paul Fix) as the ship's doctor.
Kirk's middle initial is given as "R." in "Where No Man Has Gone Before" and is seen clearly on the gravestone fashioned by Mitchell for Kirk; subsequent episodes use "James T. Kirk". His middle name was revealed to be "Tiberius."
December has an influx of money coming in. I will do my usual, buy a few things for myself, spread it around to loved ones, save some and pay off some debt. Also, just in time for Christmas.
Picking up pies today at the Greenmarket and a Thanksgiving tradition: Momofuku Crack Pie.
City and State magazine continues with great covers.
Robbie Robertson is a great story-teller. His memoir is a terrific read. After I saw The Band at Woodstock, I was a fan for life.
A quote from an interview with Robertson, just like The Beatles in Germany, Robertson and The Band toiled many years honing their craft:
"Oh, I'm just the messenger." I don't know about any of that. I know that a big part of it is called really hard work. There are no tricks—that's what I do know.
I lucked out, The Last Waltz is available on-demand.
Great story in Testimony about meeting Sonny Boy Willamson II in Arkansas with Levon Helm. By coincidence One Way Out by the Allman Brothers popped up on my I-Pod.
Raise your window
I ain't goin' out that door
Raise your window
I ain't goin' out that door
'Cause the man out there might
Be your man, I don't know
If you raise your window
I can ease out soft and low
If you raise your window
I can ease out soft and low
Your neighbors gonna be talkin'
That stuff, me don't know
Ain't but one way out
I ain't goin' out that door
Ain't but one way out
I ain't goin' out that door
If I get away this time
I won't be caught no more
Ain't but one way out
I ain't goin' out that door
Ain't but one way out
I ain't goin' out that door
If I get away this time
I won't be caught no more
South Street Seaport Tkts booth. It opens at 11 am.
Lots of protesters at Union Square. They marched through the Greenmarket.
I had this issue and Amazing Fantasy # 15 (intro of Spider-man.) As a kid, you buy comics to read, not to collect. Somehow I still have X-Men #1. Of course, it is not in mint condition, it got read.
Saw Dr. Strange last night in 3-D. Not bad, great special effects. Stay to the end, two Easter eggs to see.
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
Getting a real flashback to the Sixties and Seventies. A divided country : White v. Black, Law and Order, Youth rebellion, and protests. I lived through Nixon, I can live through Trump. Our country is very resilient. My youngest son's greatest concern, something not mentioned during the campaign,: Global Warming.
Vote early and often. So glad this is over. 538 has Hillary with momentum the past three days. I'm holding my nose and voting for the best of a bad lot.
My Windows calculator stopped working. Many crazy fixes on the internet. Easiest ? Download a free new one from Widows store.
