No Victory beer. Better season than expected but they ran out of gas by the last month. Will keep tabs on the Mets but will not have the rooting interest.
William Gibson from his Paris Review interview: "When I’m writing a book I get up at seven. I check my e-mail and do Internet ablutions, as we do these days. I have a cup of coffee."
The above pictured quote was from the same interview.
Internet ablutions, great line. I do it every morning, checking news, finances and stupid stuff I follow.
RIP Yankees. Great season, fantastic ALDS, horrible ALCS. Same thing as last year, Detroit silences the Yankees' bats. Swisher, A-Rod and Granderson must go.
Waiting in Emergency Rooms and Hospitals. Nothing to read, and I found Stephen King's Duma Key. I always liked him and this is good so far.
Wow ! That one last night goes down as one for the ages. Yesterday, I listened to the FAN, Mike Francesca was lambasting a caller for saying "Bench A-Rod, and play Ibanez." His reply was something along the lines of you don't replace a Superstar with a bench player. He treated the caller as something of an idiot. Hope he apologizes today, but I won't hold my breath.
Well, I had a long-awaited Victory beer thanks to C.C. (Carsten Charles ) Sabathia.
J.D. Salinger published a lot of Short Stories in magazines which were never re-published in anthologies. Most of them can be found on the Internet. I am currently reading Hapworth 16, 1924 which was originally publihed in the New Yorker on June 19, 1965.
Very hot on the club circuit according to my son. Yolanda Be Cool is derived from a line in Pulp Fiction - Jules: "Yolanda, I thought you said you were gonna be cool. Now when you yell at me, it makes me nervous. And when I get nervous, I get scared. And when motherfuckers get scared, that's when motherfuckers accidentally get shot."
Watched Godfather III. Some good scenes and Eli Wallach.
The Rangers won, Halladay is working on a perfect game. Now is the time to step up, go CC ! ****Post-Script: Yankees win;Roy Halladay pitches no-hitter, one walk.****
The Village Voice has a piece on the best dive bars, at the top: Nancy Whiskey. A great establishment.
Nancy Whiskey - Shane MacGowan & The Popes.
The Clancy Brothers version. Isn't it Grand Boys is still jarring.
Survivor Nicaragua is on my viewing schedule. I like watching this Psychological experiment. It is like watching intelligent Lab Rats.
The New Yorker has an interesting piece by Malcolm Gladwell entitled Small Change.
He argues that real Social change will not come about from the likes of Twitter or Facebook. “Strong-tie” v. "weak-tie" connections and the difference between networks, which are the opposite, in structure and character, of hierarchies , make change that people will fight for difficult in the new Social Networks. Worth reading.
