Yesterday was a good HAIR day. Went to Central Park
to see HAIR. A bit dated but an exuberant cast made up
for all the problems with the book.
The songs were great featuring "Aquarius," "Let the Sunshine In,"
"Easy to be Hard" and "Good Morning Starshine."
Caren Lyn Manuel as Sheila was terrific singing "Easy to be Hard."
The band was top-notch led by Nadia Digiallonardo.

Restaurant Week pick was a place in Soho at
90 Prince Street. Decent food, nice atmosphere and great service.
Will have to go back.

Finished A Primate's Memoir while waiting on line
for HAIR tickets. Half-way through Monkeyluv.

Greenmarket Report:

Sunflowers.
Ah! Sun-flower
William Blake

Ah, Sun-flower! weary of time
Who countest the steps of the sun
Seeking after that sweet golden clime
Where the traveller's journey is done:

Where the Youth pined away with desire
And the pale Virgin shrouded in snow
Arise from their graves and aspire
Where my Sun-flower wishes to go

Side-walk Salesman is on a roll.
Tons of $5 sales.

Corn is nearing its peak. Nice big ears and plenty of
flavor. No White corn today at Sycamore farms.

July 19, 2008 continued

Queens Library had other Robert Sapolsky books.

Stress is the main topic here.

Went to the Sunburnt Cow for Brunch.
We were definitely the oldest patrons.
Great food, unlimited Mimosas and Bloodies.
$15 per, cash only. Superb.

Greenmarket for corn and peaches.
Sycamore farms had the first White Corn
of the season.

Finished William Shatner's Autobiography.
A real fun read. Learned a new word.
"My father was in the schmatta business -
he manufactured inexpensive men’s suits." pg. 8
( literally RAGS)

Stuck in the Green Acres Mall for three hours. Went to Borders
and this wonderful book was available for $3.99.
I found an interview of the author and his insights on stress are fascinating.
He has written other books and I will have to try them.

Trip to the Library

Three more added to the reading list.

Halfway through this one. Had no idea he was
an accomplished stage actor.
He was in two of my favorite Twilight Zones:
"Nick of Time" & "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet."
Both written by Richard Matheson.

This one is going to be good.

Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Lo. Lee. Ta.

I always re-read Shakespeare and books like this helps
understand what it was like when he wrote.

They will be cooked with( variation on a theme) fresh Scallions, fresh Garlic and Key Lime wine sauce . Accompanied by Corn on the Cob and a Kendall Jackson Sauvignon Blanc

The sidewalk Salesman had another new hat.

Peaches from Terhune Orchards- $4.00 a pound.

Fresh Garlic makes the difference.

Kingda KA

Skull Mountain

Took a half-day yesterday and hauled five sixteen year old males
( my son included) to Six Flags Great Adventure, Jackson ,New Jersey. The BOGO ( Buy One Get One free) soda cans worked their magic and the fee for six was $150 instead of $300. Of course, Six Flags makes it up on the back-end - $3.50 sodas, $15 to park, just about everything to eat $8.99.

The park was not crowded so all the Roller Coasters were tested. The winner is KINGDA KA. The loser is the new Batman ride The DARK KNIGHT. DK was described as a Wild Mouse in the dark. The guys said 10 and under would enjoy it. A lot like Skull Mountain, which is the better of the indoor rides.

CORN !!!

As promised, the season's first corn arrived. The Union Square Greenmarket has less to see and buy on Fridays. However, they did have CORN!!!!The corn was small and quite tasty. We go meatless on Fridays ,so the menu is fresh Bluefish from the boat PURA VIDA from Hampton Bays. Bluefish cooked with fresh Scallions, and Key Lime wine sauce. Accompanied by Corn on the Cob and a Kendall Jackson Sauvignon Blanc. July 4th BBQ set for tomorrow.

Big-Ass Scallions.
