Two Autobiographies on the read list.

John Osborne is an interesting character. Never knew
he contributed so much to the movie Tom Jones.

Got to the market late, boy it was crowded.

Golden tomatoes. Picked up raspberries, corn, Blue Fish
peaches and tomatoes

Brooklyn Brewery Shackmeister Ale was available
at my local distributor. It is custom made for Shake Shacks
and is sold at Citi-Field. It is a nice brew. Reviews have been kind.

Blue Point is a great brewery. Oktoberfest is
quite tasty

Now on TWC's Free Movies on Demand. Olivier said : "I am
Archie Rice. I am not Hamlet," and it shows. Alan Bates and
Albert Finney in minor roles. I have the play in my personal
library and never read it, now I will.

Read about this in Newsday. Harvest Moon coming up
in early October, from Space.com:

Oct. 4, 2:10 a.m. EDT -- Full Harvest Moon. Traditionally, this designation goes to the full moon that occurs closest to the Autumnal (fall) Equinox. The Harvest Moon usually comes in September, but sometimes it will fall in early October as is the case in 2009; the next time won't come until 2017. At the peak of the harvest, farmers can work into the night by the light of this moon. Usually the full moon rises an average of 50 minutes later each night, but for the few nights around the Harvest Moon, the moon seems to rise at nearly the same time each night: just 25 to 30 minutes later across the U.S., and only 10 to 20 minutes later for much of Canada and Europe. Corn, pumpkins, squash, beans, and wild rice -- the chief Indian staples -- are now ready for gathering.

Neil Young, Harvest Moon behind him on stage.

Also saw this on the Sundance Channel. Wild documentary.

Checked out Studio Square Beer Garden.
Nice place, very roomy and an impressive beer selection.
Had Sam Adams Octoberfest and Cherry Wheat.
Food was good too. Pub food - Bratwurst and Burgers.

Last night at Brouwjeri Lane featured Stone Brewing Co.
Bought a Growler of Levitation Ale. Similar to Sam Adams
but with more flavor.

Greenmarket puts out decorative Gourds, it must
be Autumn.

OK, September 22 is the Equinox.

Bright sort of chilly day.

Lots of room in the early morning.

Corn only has a few weeks left, I was told next week
is it for Peaches.

linked in via a new site CheapEatery. Bought
Sesame Noodles, 8 dumplings and two Pork Scallion
pancakes - total = $9.

Demonstration in Union Square. There used to be lots
of them.

Nice overcast day.

Peaches nearing end of cycle.

Lobster from P.E. and D.D. Seafood. Will make:
NYT Lobster/Corn/Tomato Salad Recipe

Ingredients
Extra virgin olive oil as needed
2 tablespoons chopped shallot or onion
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves
2 cups fresh corn kernels (about 4 ears corn)
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
4 medium tomatoes, cored and cut into eighths
Freshly squeezed lemon juice as needed
1 1/2 pounds cooked lobster meat or shrimp, cut into chunks, at room temperature
1 teaspoon grated lemon zest
Chopped fresh parsley leaves or chives
Method
1. Put 2 tablespoons olive oil in a medium saucepan over medium-high heat; a minute later, add shallot or onion and garlic; cook for a minute, stirring occasionally, until soft. Add thyme and corn and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 10 minutes, until corn begins to brown and tastes cooked; season with salt and pepper.
2. Toss tomatoes with 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 1 tablespoon olive oil, and salt and pepper; taste and adjust seasoning, adding more lemon juice, olive oil, salt or pepper as needed.
3. Make a bed of corn on each of 4 plates, then top with a portion of tomatoes and their juices, and lobster or shrimp. Sprinkle with a bit more lemon juice and olive oil, the lemon zest and the parsley or chives, and serve.

This was one spectacular dish.

Dead Guy Ale is still $7.99 a Growler and it wins for
best buy of the Summer. I added a Stone Smoked Porter to mix things up.

RIP to those who involuntarily died that day.

September 7, 2009

Monday is sort of Greenmarket Lite. Not too many
stands and not very crowded. P.E. and D.D. Seafood is
there but a smaller version.

Peppers starting to appear, still too costly.

Although Peppers go for $3.50 a pound,
Tomatoes going down, now $2 a pound.

This is my new Wallpaper for my computer.
Nice mix of colors.

Breakfast is Chinese Pork Rolls. Love the street:
Van Loon. Part of Queens Dutch heritage.

Backdraft Chocolate Porter in a 22 oz. bomber by the Pennichuck Brewing Company is the end of Summer Brew.

September 6, 2009

A local paper talked up the Jackson Heights Greenmarket , so I went. It is a nice, small market with lots of specialty Mexican produce.

I will go back for Hablano Peppers. The corn and tomatoes were not of Union Square quality.

American Seafood Inc. looks real good. Got a pound of Scallops
and 3/4 pound of Mako for $19. Will grill later and see. Looks
like a keeper and a reason to return.

Another reason to return, lots of street vendors. One had fresh
Churros at 50¢ a pop.

September 5, 2009 - End of Summer

The Autumnal Equinox is actually Sep 22 2009 5:18 PM EDT.
However, this weekend is the real end of Summer.

Nice sunny day at the market.

Tomatoes coming down in price.

Heirlooms in the sun. Corn and
Seafood lunch coming up.

Local distributor had Rogue Dead Guy Ale
for $7.60 a growler. Real smooth and good-tasting brew.

This is a good history of the NYPD's past thirty years.
I was expecting a cut-and-paste of the author's internet
columns at NYPD Confidential and was pleasantly surprised
that it wasn't. A real good and fast read.
