Man, what a game. I would start watching Hockey if it was always like this. Mad Props to Canada. Got to love the Mounties on the ice during the Flag Raising.

My CYO team advances in the Playoffs. My son , who is our best player, had Varsity practice for the CHSAA playoffs this week. Hated to have him miss this game but High School comes first. It turns out the other team was missing some key players for the same reason. Normally, no practice on Sundays but everything was put out of whack with the snowstorm. Karma.

The Confessions of J. J. Rousseau is my next project.

The monsters were kind of cheesy but the writing was excellent.
The Outer Limits was a jolt back in the Sixties. It had an edge.
Reviews for DVDs of Season One and Season Two have been kind.

JOSEPH STEFANO, producer and writer, wrote the screenplay for Psycho.

The Duplicate Man (based on a 1951 story "Goodnight, Mr. James"
by Clifford D. Simak) was terrific. Made me think of Blade Runner
and artificial beings attaining emotions and a soul.

This Site has some nice insights into the Series.

On the way to work, Thank God for Four-Wheel Drive.
I really should clean the snow of the front hood.

This tree always looks good in the snow.

Across the Jackie Robinson Expressway.

Patrol car left behind.

Looks comfortable.

40 years ago coming up. George Kalinsky has photos for sale on his web site.

Now on TWC Free Movies on Demand. I saw it when I was 10 years old. At the time, the longest movie I had sat through. I remember the intermission and being thirsty.

Themistocles, quoted by T.E. Lawrence in Lawrence of Arabia: "I cannot fiddle, but I can make a great state of a small city."

From Francis Bacon's essay, Of the True GREATNESS OF KINGDOMS AND ESTATES
THE speech of Themistocles the Athenian, which was haughty and arrogant, in taking so much to himself, had been a grave and wise observation and censure, applied at large to others. Desired at a feast to touch a lute, he said, He could not fiddle, but yet he could make a small town, a great city.

Plutarch's Life of Themistocles:
And thus afterwards, when in company where people engaged themselves in what are commonly thought the liberal and elegant amusements, he was obliged to defend himself against the observations of those who considered themselves highly accomplished, by the somewhat arrogant retort, that he certainly could not make use of any stringed instrument, could only, were a small and obscure city put into his hands, make it great and glorious.

Tried reading this several times, once more into the breach.

"All men dream: but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible. This I did."

Pictures taken by my youngest son, from Key West Florida.

Haven't watched any part of this Winter Olympics. I will
watch US v. Canada - Hockey tonight at 7:40 p.m.

USA wins 5-3. Great game, exciting and well-played on both sides.

The references to Gödel, Escher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid
make the report a must-read.

Rosa Mexicano Restaurant Week lunch was superb.
Dessert: Homemade Mexican chocolate cupcake filled with hazelnut mousse and topped with crème fraiche whipped cream. Served with an espresso-piloncillo-chocolate sauce.
A gussied-up Drake's Yankee Doodle.

Bought The Outer Limits DVDs for Seasons one and two of the original series, three DVD sets in all. Lots of Twilight Zone players. James Cameron had to settle with Harlen Ellison for Demon with a Glass Hand and Soldier - Outer Limits scripts that inspired The Terminator.

The Bowery Whole Foods Beer Room is a frequent
stop. They always have fresh, local Beer.

Today's pick: Sixpoint Diesel Stout.

And, Magic Hat 100(IBU) IPA. IBU stands for International Bittering Unit - the scale used to measure hop bitterness in beer. An IBU is one part per million of isohumulone, an acid derived from hops. If you like the very bitter “bite” of the “Extreme Beers,” a higher IBU would be an indication of that snap.

Wandering about Manhattan, clear Blue skies all around.

Municipal Building in the Sun.

Brewmaster's Reserve Cookie Jar Porter. High in
Alcohol (ABV: 7.8%), and high in taste.

Same thing, potent ( ABV 8%) and tasty.

This is getting to be known as a great tasting
value wine. I thought it was as good as some bottles
I've had at the $30-$40 range.

Restaurant Week is extended through February 28 for
many(190) of the the original participants. Will do another
on President's Day. Will be Rosa Mexicano, Mesa Grill or
Blue Water Grill.

Beautiful sights and so quiet. The snow muffles the
noise.

Commute was easy, everybody stayed home.

Liked this tree.
