Monuments Men looks like a good read.

Bought the Much Ado about Nothing DVD, heard good things about it. I've seen it performed a lot since it is a Shakespeare in the park staple.

Old Town Bar is a classic.

Went to Katz's for some Brisket.

Katz's Brown Ale, made by Brooklyn Brewery and an overstuffed sandwich: $26. Delicious.

Turning 62. Will wander around and buy things and have a good lunch. Work will slightly interfere but not much.

A Voce Columbus Circle, quite good , nice view, a little expensive but well worth it.

Time Warner building is interesting. A Peroni to start the night. Dessert wines to finish.

In the modern Sherlock the phrase is "The game is on." Before it was "The game is afoot." Maybe a nod to Shakespeare.

The Adventure of the Abbey Grange

"Come, Watson, come!" he cried. "The game is afoot. Not a word! Into your clothes and come!"

King Henry V , Act III, scene I

To his full height. On, on, you noblest English.
Whose blood is fet from fathers of war-proof!
Fathers that, like so many Alexanders,
Have in these parts from morn till even fought
And sheathed their swords for lack of argument:
Dishonour not your mothers; now attest
That those whom you call'd fathers did beget you.
Be copy now to men of grosser blood,
And teach them how to war. And you, good yeoman,
Whose limbs were made in England, show us here
The mettle of your pasture; let us swear
That you are worth your breeding; which I doubt not;
For there is none of you so mean and base,
That hath not noble lustre in your eyes.
I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game's afoot:
Follow your spirit, and upon this charge
Cry 'God for Harry, England, and Saint George!'

My old Microsoft Works had an important database on it, a Book Census. It outlined every book I own and location. Since I have over 10 bookcases , it is handy for finding books. Like last night, looking for Thomas More's Utopia and Machiavelli's The Prince. My youngest son needed them for a class.

Well, the file is in .wdb format and can't be opened. Free Microsoft Works downloads contain PUPS (Acronym for potentially unwanted program PUP or PUPs is a term used to describe unwanted programs such as Trojans, spyware and adware, along with other malware which may compromise your privacy.)

A little research shows that you can save the file in .cvs or .txt format which can then be opened in Excel. Thankfully, I still have a computer with the program and e-mail. Problem solved.

Carmelo gets 62 last night and breathes life back into the Knicks. They can still make the playoffs.

HR Block Tax software. Usually have the returns almost done but this year I have to pay, and that's after having a lot deducted. Also, everything is pushed back this year because the IRS was closed during the sequestration.

Nice to have the day off.

I think today's AFC championship between the Broncos and the Patriots will be the best game of the year, the real Super Bowl, Chili dog time.

Heineken is the weekend beer, $12.99 a twelve pack. Not my favorite but a good, clean taste. Will go good with chili dogs and football.

Family gathering today to celebrate a cousin's speed limit birthday. Should be fun but lots of driving involved.

My iomega 500 GB external hard drive fell on the floor, carpeted no less, and it went south on me. I took it to my local computer store and they were able to transfer all my files. They could fix it or just put everything on a new one. They recommended and I went with WD( Western Digital) My Passport 500 GB for $75, transfer of data included. It is a neat piece of hardware, smaller and is bus-powered, meaning you only need one cable for both data and power. I will probably use it for work too.

Was waiting for a coupon and just received it. Duty: Memoirs of a Secretary at War by Robert M. Gates will be purchased. I really enjoyed Rumsfeld's Known and Unknown: A Memoir. This will be an interesting follow-up.

At the Garden, Bronx Ale, a win. All is good.

He still takes questionable shots but he plays hard. 29 points and 16 rebounds is quite an effort. Knicks now in eighth place.

Playing in an alumni game tonight. I will be the oldest on the court.

Niagara Falls is not frozen but it sure looks pretty. Someone posted an erroneous statement which was jumped on by hordes of commentators.

Early, but not official : Restaurant Week will run from February 17 to March 7. Later start because of the Super Bowl. Restaurants in NYC will see an influx of customers for that event.

A three-course lunch will run you $25 and dinner will cost $38. More Outer-Borough places are said to be included.

J.R.R. Tolkien's drawing of a dragon.

The 2014 Dilbert Wall calendar was not available at Barnes and Noble in NYC or by shipping after January 1. I need it for my wall at work, ordered it from Amazon which had to sub it out to Prodigal Books.

I already have the desk calendar.

Snow was not as bad as billed but boy was it cold. I still managed to drive to work with the traction control yellow light going off constantly.

Received Balducci's Artisan Chocolate Truffles. Not bad, but a bit small. I used to go to them in the Village and later would go to the sister's Grace's Marketplace. The brand was bought by a large conglomerate. According to Wikipedia:"in April 2009 Balducci's was sold to Kings Food Markets, a portfolio company of Angelo, Gordon and Co."

Corona was $12.99 a twelve pack. Beer for the weekend football games.

The Marquis in the sun. No fish at the Greenmarket for the second week in a row. Understandable, one was right after New Year's and Suffolk County was hit hard by the storm.

Happy New Year ! Remnants of last night's get together. Still have lots of food and it will be gone by tonight. Somehow, I now have a bottle of Merlot, a half-gallon of Skyy Vodka and a quart of Johnnie Walker Black.

I have to give props to Buffalo Wild Wings. Every Tuesday their wings are on sale. Yesterday, same deal. 125 wings for $81.66.

Just watched the movie on TCM. This one looks pretty interesting.

I have read Jim Harrison in the past and this one landed on my Amazon gift card purchase.
