Remember all who made the ultimate sacrifice. According to the Department of Veterans Affairs:
Many people confuse Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Memorial Day is a day for remembering and honoring military personnel who died in the service of their country, particularly those who died in battle or as a result of wounds sustained in battle. While those who died are also remembered, Veterans Day is the day set aside to thank and honor ALL those who served honorably in the military — in wartime or peacetime. In fact, Veterans Day is largely intended to thank LIVING veterans for their service, to acknowledge that their contributions to our national security are appreciated, and to underscore the fact that all those who served — not only those who died — have sacrificed and done their duty.
Honu !

The movie is on this Sunday morning (5/29) at 2:15 a.m.
Watched the entire series on the plane including The Force Awakens. Episodes 1-3 were better than I remembered with the exception of Jar Jar Binks. Jake Lloyd is great as the young Anakin Skywalker in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace.

11 hour flight, 6 hour time difference. No food on the flight, either bring it or pay for it. This will be my longest flight. Rome was 8 hours, Lima 7 hours.
Really looking forward to serious beach time. Most vacations are too busy, almost like work. I just want to Veg out.
Used Packing Pro for my Peru trip, a check-list always helps.
Triposo was very useful in Peru, lots of good, current recommendations.

Gohawaii.com has some good stuff.
Maps are still useful, although the phone GPS has taken over.
Still a good meal at Legal Sea Foods.
My bucket list never had Hawaii on it. People at work raved about it and went just about yearly. Las Vegas was my dream. A July trip is planned. My other wishes are Chicago and San Francisco. I never went on vacations I wanted; always geared vacations to the children and amusement parks. They were fun, don't get me wrong. Now, I have the time and the money. Vegas has always been a place I wanted to visit. Pure Americana.

Playing Doc's Game from The New Yorker, 1992, will be my plane reading.
Shakespeare in the Park just announced the borough distribution list. An all-female The Taming of the Shrew looks like a must-see with Cush Jumbo (Katherina) and Janet McTeer(Petruchio.)

Senor Wences Way on 54th street, right up the block from the Ed Sullivan theater.
Perfect score !
Watched The Force Awakens on-demand. Rey's vision sequence included Obi-Wan Kenobi quotes: ‘Rey … these are your first steps.” The closed captions help.

Books to take to Hawaii. 1. The White Album by Joan Didion:
"I could indulge here in a little idle generalization, could lay off my own state of profound emotional shock on the larger cultural breakdown, could talk fast about convulsions in the society, and alienation and anomie and maybe even assassination, but that would be just one more stylish shell game. I am not the society in microcosm. I am a thirty-four-year-old woman with long straight hair and an old bikini bathing suit and bad nerves sitting on an island in the middle of the Pacific waiting for a tidal wave that will not come."
2. Barbarian Days: A Surfing Life, recent winner of the Pulitzer prize.
3. From Here to Eternity.
4. Ulysses.
