Great book. Learned the Gaelic roots of Whyos, Dead Rabbits
Plug-Uglies and Sucker. The book takes you on a tour
from Five Points to the Boston of Whitey Bulger.
Dead Rabbit: Dead Ráibéad ,Dead as an intensifier meaning “very” and Ráibéad in Gaelic was a galoot or big lug.
Whyo :Noble Few in Irish is Uathadh Uais, turned into “Whyo.”
Plug Uglies: Their name came from Bail Oglaigh, Member of Volunteers.
The Patsy Conroys. Their name came from Pairt sa Connradh, Partners in League.
Sucker: sách úr meaning “fresh well-fed fellow” or “fat cat” ready to be fleeced like a ripe Donegal Sheep.
Mumms.
Lots of peppers. Tonight's meal is Stuffed Peppers, made with
Red, Green,Yellow and Orange Peppers.
"Been selling for fifteen years and never heard
