October 2, 2010

Cool clear day.

Sunny and blue skies. Greenmarket not too crowded.

Pumpkins in the sun.

Jack-o'-lantern.

Picked up all the ingredients for the first Beef Stew of the Fall 2010 Season.
My old recipe:
1 1/2 pounds Top Round Sirloin
1 cup flour
1 Tablespoon Black pepper
1 Tablespoon Goya Adobe
2 Tablespoons Virgin Olive Oil
3 carrots
5 Potatoes
4 Mushrooms
1 Sweet potato
1 Green Pepper
2 Red Peppers
1 cup Peas
7 cloves garlic
1 Shallot
1 cup beef broth
1 cup red wine
1 teaspoon Oregeno
2 teaspoons Lime Juice
1 packet Turbinado Brown Sugar
1 28 oz Marinara Sauce
1 8 oz Tomato Sauce
1 16 oz Diced Tomatoes
3 Tomatoes

Cut Beef into small cubes. Put cubes in Gallon Storage bag with flour, pepper and Adobe. Mix well to cover cubes completely.
Add cubes to hot oil and saute for six to seven minutes.
In a large pot add the chopped garlic, onion , shallot, mushrooms and peppers until soft. Add carrots, potatoes (cubed), tomatoes, Sauce, peas, broth, wine, Oregano; Add cooked Beef cubes, bring to a boil. Reduce heat to low; cover , cook until all is tender, about two hours.

Ms. Winfrey is a great story, rags to riches - an almost shamanistic communicator.
CBS Sunday Morning did a profile of Kitty Kelley last April. The intriguing thing about it was the amount of research Ms. Kelley puts into her books. Wouldn't have picked this one up but for the Sunday Morning piece. The documentation and personal interviews done for this book rivals professional historians.
